Hawaii
Surrounded by the green verdant mountains of dormant volcanoes and with the roar of the Pacific beating down upon palm fringed white beaches, the city of Honolulu is the idyllic city holiday destination. With such an abundance of natural beauty and the attractions of a vibrant and buzzing metropolis, Honolulu is sure to allure all those who visit…from the beach bum to the culture vulture.
Hawaii City
Hula clad girls, white sun kissed beaches and killer surf, Honolulu has all this and more!
The Downtown district of Honolulu is the site of some of the city’s finest landmarks, namely the Aloha Tower and the Iolani Palace. This area is also home to some of Honolulu’s finest restaurants and cultural institutions.
Nearby, Chinatown is one of the most interesting and vibrant areas of the city. In between some beautiful temples you will find cutting edge cultural and entertainment venues, a fine array of restaurants and a host of Chinese herbal and medicinal shops selling a range of cure-alls.
To the north of the city is Pearl Harbor, the site of the Japanese surprise attack that led to the American intervention in World War II.
To the east is the famous suburb of Waikiki with its beautiful beach, pounding surf, hotels, bars and restaurants. Manoa, where the University is located, is a beautifully tranquil suburb tucked in between the mountains. Whilst towering above everything and dominating the skyline is the famous Oahu landmark of Diamond Head.

Shopping in Hawaii
If its souvenirs or just a little self indulgent shopping therapy you’re looking for, then Honolulu has everything you could desire. From the bustle of the marketplace to the refined shopping experience of the designer boutique, Honolulu caters to all. Chinatown is undoubtedly one of the best districts for shopping in Honolulu. Wander through the streets of this lively area and let your senses be assaulted by the smells, sights and sounds of the open air markets and the Chinese herbal practitioners. There are also some fine boutiques selling beautifully adorned silk cheongsams, the traditonal Chinese one-piece dresses, whilst in the vicinity of Maunakea Street you can pick up a delicately handcrafted Hawaiian lei.
In the Ala Moana district is the state’s largest open-air shopping centre, where you will find a host of high end designer stores. Nearby is the Downtown district and the Aloha Tower Marketplace where you can pick up all manner of Hawaiian crafts and souvenirs.
For more high end designer boutiques, head out to Waikiki where 2100 Kalakaua and DFS Galleria Waikiki are just two of the myriad of malls catering to the design concious fashionistas. If your looking for a bargain and you prefer the down-at-the-heel atmosphere of the flea market, then head for the Aloha Stadium swap every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
